88 built projects
28 state or national green building certifications, including LEED Gold and Platinum

Perhaps the best reference comes from repeat clients, and especially construction-savvy clients. Of studio beili’s many built projects, 24 of them have come as referrals from builders, another 20 have been for spec homes for the builder, and another four have been the builders’ personal homes. That’s a total of 48 times that builders have recognized that Stephen works well as a team, integrates sensible construction methods in his designs, and brings clients joy.

References from past clients

Part of how I so thoroughly enjoy my home is knowing I had a designer who fully realized our wishes and did it with such excellent professionalism, astounding attention to detail, and infectious positivity!
-Rebecca Rene Porras

Stephen, I would like to let you know how much I appreciate how you handle this entire process! I feel you really hear us and try to follow up with any suggestions or thoughts we may come up with, allowing us our own thought process and decision. Also, always so prompt and on task. I do not take any of these traits for granted. Your sense of impeccable detail is a little intimidating at times but it makes us feel super safe. What a great combo you offer: whimsical and floating creativity and feet so rooted in reality! We feel very lucky to be walking this path with you.
-Cristina Branco, realtor and client

Every morning I get up and do a house meditation, walking around to see where the moon is shining through the clerestory windows, or how the stars look from the guest room. The house is so beautiful inside and out, and I think of you every day, and I'm grateful for your perfect work.

Stephen Beili is a wonderfully talented designer. He has keen intuition and creativity combined with organization and attention to every detail. Stephen is a dream to work with!
- Lori Lanier, realtor and client

We really enjoyed working with you and would heartily endorse your work to anyone interested in designing a house. You were patient and creative along the way, giving us ideas and suggestions resulting in a beautiful and functional house. You always kept us informed of the financial impact of any decisions we were making. This assured us that there were no surprises at the end. Your sense of humor complements your creative talents and makes the design process enjoyable.

It's hard to say what I like best about working with Studio Beili, but I should say that when the project was completed and I loved it totally, I told Stephen that if I could find some land I liked, I would be excited to start the process all over again.

Stephen was able to listen to my half-baked ideas about building a green house that was both modern and rustic, small yet roomy, and open yet cozy and to create a house that was beyond my wildest dreams. He did it with respect for the limitations of my budget and without trying to impose a particular aesthetic on my house. I recommend this company without reservation.

Stephen Beili is a gifted designer. His work caught my eye over ten years ago in Santa Fe, New Mexico with two very different houses. In 2012 I was ready to build my own home and did not hesitate to call Studio Beili. We hired him to create a small, healthy, solar home on a small lot and he succeeded beyond our expectation.

His attention to detail cannot be over emphasized. He is an excellent listener, a sharp observer and relentless puzzle solver. He incorporated every design dream, no matter how contradictory, we voiced and created a brilliant home that takes full advantage of views, passive heating, inside/outside living and privacy for us and our neighbors. His extensive research of cost effective materials, environmental footprint, health and longevity of the building introduced us to a community of local experts. We felt secure choosing systems and building methods that would work within our budget.

Stephen met the challenge of high expectation and limited budget by insuring that every dollar was well spent. He vetted contractors, suppliers and landscapers to insure that they too would be passionately invested in our project.

When we broke ground in September 2013 Stephen welcomed the opportunity to incorporate the artistic talents of our contractor and the interior & landscape design talents of our project manager. He is always enthusiastic about learning something new and generously passing on his knowledge. His note taking at every meeting is invaluable for all.

Stephen is always open to revisions that improve the project but remains strict to insuring that the budget is adhered, the HERS rating is not compromised and the unique design elements are not lost. When a problem surfaces he brings everyone's attention to it and is not satisfied until the team is 100% satisfied.

Stephen Beili

1993    Rice University, Bachelor of Architecture
1991    Rice University, Bachelor of Arts in Architecture

Stephen began designing houses in second grade.

He is not an architect; instead of taking the traditional path after college of doing his apprenticeship and licensure, he went to work for builders, learning from those in the field. From this experience grew his appreciation for collaborating with the entire team that gets involved in making clients’ dreams come to life.

Stephen is a confident and compassionate designer who can work with you to tease out your distinct vision and passion for your home.

Anchored by a vivacious spirit and an intelligent approach to design, he has a singular desire to express his clients’ dreams. Imbuing his work with joy and love, he creates spaces for his clients where they feel inspired. Working closely with high-end builders, Stephen has extensive experience in modern residential design. His fresh take on the architecture of the region sets his work apart.

He formed his own modern residential design firm in Santa Fe in 2003. Studio Beili ensures an authentic and unique design experience, one found at that creative nexus of good design and joyful living. Stephen offers clients a thoughtful, deliberate approach that allows for greater, deeper creativity. Clients who seek contemporary design with a powerful relationship between space, form, and light are drawn to Stephen because he sources his creativity from a deep, transcendent place and because he encourages others’ creativity, too.
